What is the treatment for post-bone grafting implant pain?

Hello doctor,

I started the process of getting four implants. Last week I went for bone grafting. It has been a living nightmare ever since. I was completely fine, pain-wise, until three days after the grafting. Out of nowhere, I was in excruciating pain. Like deep in the nerve type pain. At that point, it was only my lower right side that was in pain. One of my stitches busted, and the bone grafting material was oozing out. The dentist saw me that evening on an emergency basis and cleaned it up and stitched me back up. Reassured me that my pain would end. He also switched me to a stronger antibiotic.

Well, not only did the pain not go away, my left side started in on the same excruciating pain on the next day. The pain is that sharp, stabbing, throbbing pain that increase with each heartbeat. Worst pain of my life. It seems to be coming from teeth next to where the grafting was done. I should also add that I have a bridge on my lower front four teeth, with teeth as my anchoring teeth.

No one knows where my pain is coming from, so no one knows how to treat me. I am miserable. Have not eaten anything in three days. Talking, drinking, and eating cause immediate, intense throbbing. It feels like nerve pain to me. Similar to the way I have felt in the past when an infection has reached my nerves. I am wondering if something is now touching my nerves in the teeth next to where the grafting was done? I am at a loss and would love to hear what anyone else thinks.

How can periodontal diseases be prevented?

Hi doctor,

I am looking to improve my oral hygiene and prevent periodontal disease. Can you provide insights on the effectiveness of using mouthwash as part of a dental care routine? Additionally, are there specific leafy vegetables or dietary recommendations that contribute to better oral health, and how can I integrate these into my routine for optimal results? Kindly explain.

Thank you.

What is the treatment for dental infection?

Hello doctor,

I have a bad infection at the lower right molars- 46 and 47(and another one at the left one, but that does not hurt and I will deal with it right after this one). I had really big swelling and a lot of pain, swelling started a few days ago and got gradually worse. I went to the dentist and he suggested an extraction for both right molars, he said I have a cyst and an infection, that the previous root canal was cemented, and that redoing it would not save the teeth. Gave me an antibiotic (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid every 12 hours) and something for the pain. It is been three days now since I was supposed to have my two molars removed, but I canceled the extraction(the dentist also told me I was still a bit too swollen to do it today anyway) after I got a second opinion from another dentist. As I am only 24 years old, she(the second dentist) does not want me to remove either of them, telling me to try and redo the root canal on 47 and 46 she recommended drilling into the bone to drain the cyst and save the tooth but recommended another dentist with more experience to do it.(Who is completely booked and cannot take me) so I found another dentist. When I went to the original dentist to cancel, he told me what I had was very serious, that the teeth could not be saved, and that I had developed dental cellulitis. Now I am scheduled to the third dentist, in two days who has seen the x-ray and told me to not have them extracted just yet but instead, to continue the antibiotic until Friday and we'll see then. The swelling has reduced but is still present a little, and the pain is mostly gone, with no painkillers taken, but my cheek has a hard spot, and I feel a little tension in that spot whenever I move my head up. Apologies for the long post. Is there any chance that the teeth can be saved? Or should I hurry and get them extracted as soon as possible? The contradictory opinions from these three different dentists have me worried. I read online that a dental cyst can lead to the removal of part of the jaw. So I do not know what to do. Kindly suggest.

Is it normal to have pain after wisdom tooth removal?

Hello doctor,

I had my upper left and bottom right wisdom teeth extracted 15 days back and ever since have been experiencing the worst jaw pain. I am barely able to open it most of the time with the exception of a few hours when the pain dulls down. Once it becomes intense again, it starts from my jaw and shoots up my entire face passing behind my ear and ending right behind my left eye. I know some pain is to be expected post op but is it normal to feel this way almost two weeks later?

I am 33 weeks pregnant and suffering from dental abscess. Kindly help.

Hello doctor,

I have a dental abscess, and I am 33 weeks pregnant. It is so painful that I cannot eat, sleep, drink, or do anything. My dentist cannot do anything about it until next month. I was wondering if the emergency room can do something about it.
