Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am interested in understanding the connection between the gastrointestinal tract and gut microbiota for overall health. Can you provide insights into the importance of healthy gut microbiota, any specific dietary or lifestyle recommendations to support gut health based on my individual needs, and potential benefits for my overall well-being?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. A healthy gut contains healthy bacteria so the microbiome is in the gut only it is not different from the GI (gastrointestinal tract) tract and immune cells that ward off infectious agents like bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The compromised gut or GI tract is a root cause of many diseases and to maintain this gut health, a synbiotic is needed, a good pre-biotic with pro-biotic. It can be taken in the form of supplements and it can be added via different foods.

Follow these guidelines:

1. Food choices are common causes of heartburn, bloating, and constipation.

2. Avoid fried foods and consume alcohol and caffeine in moderation, as they are not healthy in the long run.

3. Adequate sleep is essential for gut health. It is very common for people with disturbed sleep to suffer from nausea, bloating, constipation, and other digestive concerns.

4. Regular exercise is known to reduce stress levels and help maintain a healthy weight, which can have positive effects on gut health.

Probiotics- The most common fermented foods that naturally contain probiotics, or have probiotics added to them, include yogurt, cheese, some pickles, buttermilk, rice porridge, homemade curd, pickles, rasam, and kimchi. Probiotics help in the growth of intestinal bacteria which helps in the building of vitamin B12 in the body.

Prebiotics are food for probiotics like whole grains, garlic, onion, and more..

Synbiotic foods can be made by combining prebiotic-rich foods with several good sources of probiotics to bring a concentrated dose of both to your diet. Prebiotic foods include green bananas, chicory root, onions, oats, acacia gum, garlic, asparagus ragu, and more.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
