What is the treatment for my chronic anxiety issues other than SSRI medications?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. I read and understood your query and can understand your concern. We have GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) agonists under the category of drugs called Benzodiazepines which are used for short-term management of anxiety symptoms but are not recommended for long-term use as they are highly addictive. There are also GABA-B agonists, a routinely used drug is Baclofen, used as a muscle relaxant and anti-craving medicine. We also have glutamate antagonists, of which a class of glutamate receptors, namely NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) antagonists, are commonly used in anesthesia.

I am attracted to women with glasses. Is it a normal behavior?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. Different men have different fantasies, both sexual and nonsexual. I would have to say that the fact you have an attraction towards women with glasses in itself does not make you abnormal. However, the moment that you start losing control over thoughts like these, then they become obsessions. For example, if you have these sexual thoughts repeatedly and excessively almost all the time and in situations where they would not normally occur, like say, praying in a temple, then they would warrant further detailed evaluation to rule out obsessions.

What is delusional disorder or paranoid schizophrenia?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. I am sorry to hear about your mental state, but at the same time I do appreciate you for being on regular medicines. However, even though your question is very direct, I am sorry to say that I cannot give you a straight forward answer or diagnosis. First and most importantly, I implore you not to go chasing after a specific diagnosis as the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) and other books that are used for diagnosing psychiatric conditions. They keep changing some criteria every decade or so.

Is it a mental problem or am I just being paranoid?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. Since this has been occurring persistently for the last few years and appears to be causing you significant impairment, I would ask you to get it evaluated in detail by a psychiatrist. I do not mean to scare you, but at your age, you are vulnerable to a lot of psychiatric disorders. Your symptom could be an obsession. Obsessions are recurrent ideas, images, impulses, thoughts, feelings, etc.

Does hearing sounds in the head indicate schizophrenia?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. I read your query and can understand your concern. Having thoughts in your head or hearing something in your mind is perfectly normal and may be at best termed pseudo-hallucinations. Just that alone would definitely not give you a diagnosis of schizophrenia. However, if you find some unwanted thoughts that enter your mind recurrently even though you attempt to resist them, then you have to be careful and consult with your local psychiatrist to rule out obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
