Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am consulting for my son. He has been diagnosed with hyperactive airway disease. I gave him Septillin syrup for over a month and stopped it three months ago. Also, as per your advice, I gave him half a tablespoon of honey for 15 days at night, stopped for another 15 days, and started again. Should I continue this practice for life long? Also, under what conditions should I stop giving honey? Should I give the honey in the day time or during the night? Currently, he uses Nasonex nasal spray once at night, Aziwok tablets once every week, and multivitamins and billargic syrup at night. He used a Budamate inhaler in the past.

Kindly advise.

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest giving him Septillin syrup, one teaspoon twice daily after food for a month. If the syrup is unavailable, you can give him half a teaspoon of gooseberry (amla) powder with lukewarm water after food for one month. You can give him little sugar if he feels the taste is sour. Along with medicines, he can also do stretching exercises. Also, you can continue taking honey for life-long. However, precautions have to be taken if there are any allergic symptoms. The most common allergic symptoms include hives, redness on the skin, and itching. Also, honey should not be given with warm water. According to Ayurveda, it can lead to a toxic reaction. People with diabetes must also not be given honey. However, adults can take a teaspoon of honey every day.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Regarding follow up

I suggest follow-up after a month.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You are welcome.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have completed one month course of Septillin syrup for my son and started with half a teaspoon of honey at night for the next 15 days. Can I practice this routine for life long?

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can practice it lifelong and give honey daily if you see good results.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I give honey at night currently. Is there any appropriate time to give honey, or is it fine to give it at night?

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can take honey any time according to your preference. But if you want to choose a particular time, you can prefer the morning time. Also, never take honey and desi ghee (clarified butter) in equal amounts, as it can lead to a toxic reaction.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

So, should I avoid giving honey and clarified butter simultaneously?

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, please do not give honey and desi ghee in equal amounts at same time. You can use them at different times.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

As I have completed the course of Septicillin syrup, what should I start next for my son?

My husband is 41 years, and I am 36 years. My parents are 69 years and 60 years. Also, they both have diabetes and heart problems. What can we take as a supplement to increase our immunity against covid?

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can use Septillin syrup (Commiphora wightii, Conch shell calx, Tinospora cordifolia) whenever there is a change of season for one to two months. You and your husband can take Chyawanprash one teaspoon daily in the morning with lukewarm milk to increase immunity. Your parents can take capsule Amla (gooseberry) and capsule Giloy twice daily with water after food.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor

At my place, neither amla powder nor syrup are available. However, amla lehyam is available. Can I give it to my son? Also, could you please tell me the dosage and when to take it? Also, can it be taken along with allopathic medicines and inhalers?

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can give it to your son. Start giving him half a teaspoon daily for three to four weeks. In children aged above five years, it can be given half a teaspoon two times a day. Also, you can give it along with allopathic medicines. But maintain some time gap between allopathic and ayurvedic medicines. You can first give him allopathic medicines, and then, after a gap of one to two hours, you can give him the lehyam.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the answer.

Like chyawanprash, can I continue giving this for months together or should I stop it after four weeks?

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can give it continuously for two to three months. Then give a time gap of atleast one month.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Also my parents aged 60 and 68 years have high blood pressure and acidity. Recently my mother started drinking green tea with lemon juice and she had an uneasy feeling in the stomach. Is it correct to drink green tea with lemon?

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Green tea also has caffeine in it. Although lesser than black tea and coffee. If she feels uneasy, tell her to take green tea without lemon juice. If she feels better, she can continue taking it without lemon juice. But if she still does not feel good, she can stop taking it.
