Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that helps to treat severe bacterial infections. It can treat infections in meningitis, blood, abdomen, lungs, skin, bones, joints, and urinary tract infections. Amikacin works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria within seven to ten days. The common side effects are diarrhea, hearing loss, numbness, dizziness, and muscle twitching when used in the injection form.
