Benzalkonium chloride has broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. As a result, it has a wide variety of applications in artificial ponds, laundry, hair conditioners, antimicrobial soaps, and as a disinfectant in hospitals, the food industry, and consumer goods. Also, it is employed as an antimicrobial preservative in the pharmaceutical industry. However, it can cause irritant or allergic contact dermatitis if it comes in contact with skin.
