Medical Conditions - Bone Density Test

A bone density test is done to assess the density of the bone. It shows whether the bone is having low density or high density, or osteoporosis. When you have a low bone density, then there is a greater chance of having a break in the bone. It is usually done in women of more than 65 years of age and men of 70 years of age. It is also done in patients having consistent back pain due to a break in the spine and their X-ray of the spine showing a bone loss in the spine.
