Medical Conditions - Carbuncle

A cluster of painful boils interlinked beneath the skin, and appear red and swollen, are called carbuncles. It occurs in the thighs, groin, buttocks, and armpits and is caused by the Staphylococcus bacteria, which are the inhabitants of the skin, throat, and nose. These penetrate the skin through hair follicles, scratch, or a puncture and cause infection. Incision and drainage along with antibiotics is the recommended medical treatment for a carbuncle.
