The inflammation of the tissue that lines the inner wall of the colon or large intestine is called colitis. The various causes of colitis include inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), infection, allergy, etc. Colitis can result in abdominal pain, stomach cramps, blood in stools, and diarrhea.
