Cough with phlegm can occur due to certain conditions like allergies, air pollution, smoking, upper or lower respiratory tract infection, viral infection, bacterial infection, tobacco use, postnasal drip, asthma, and acid reflux. There will be a production of mucus while coughing. It is treated by taking expectorants for thinning and loosening the mucus for expelling it. Gargling with salt water and steam inhalation helps to manage it.
