Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a technique of developing new bone after the procedure of corticotomy or an osteotomy and diminished distraction. Distraction osteogenesis comprises four steps:1. Corticotomy or osteotomy and arrangement of the distraction appliances.2. Latent time period for callous organization.3. Gradual distraction at a rate of 0.5–1 mm per day.4. Retention period of a few months for callus maturation and mineralization. Distraction osteogenesis is a beneficial and well-established procedure for bone and soft tissue construction in moderate to severe bone deficiency cases.
