Entamoeba histolytica causes a disease known as Amebiasis. It is commonly seen among people who live in tropical areas with poor sanitary conditions. Amebiasis is a contagious disease. It is not always symptomatic. Only about 10-20% of the infected people show symptoms. Some of the symptoms include loose stools, mild abdominal cramps, frequent watery stools, and loss of appetite.
