An erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a kind of blood test that estimates how fast erythrocytes (red blood cells) drop at the bottom of a test tube that composes a blood sample. Generally, red blood cells settle moderately slowly. A faster-than-normal rate demonstrates inflammation in the body.
