Failure to thrive applies to children whose weight gain is not average like the children of the same age and sex or in whom the rate of weight gain is significantly less. The medical issues include genetic disorders, problems in the organs, hormone deficiencies, injury to the brain, anemia, blood, gastrointestinal, and metabolic disorders, issues during pregnancy, low birth weight, and infection. Poverty, Poor eating habits, emotional trauma with the parent or caregiver, inadequate diet are the environmental factors.
