Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is a surgical procedure used to treat serious sinus conditions. It helps restore sinus ventilation and its normal function. In this procedure, the otolaryngologist inserts a thin nasal endoscope and removes the diseased nasal tissue or polyps that block the sinus. Complications of FESS include teary eyes, heavy nasal bleeding, and loss of smell.
