Filariasis is an infectious parasitic disease of humans and animals caused by the parasite filariae, which are roundworms. It is a tropical infection. Wuchereria bancrofti cause lymphatic filariasis leading to elephantiasis characterized by swollen leg with disfigurement. Men with filariasis suffer from hydrocele. There are also serous cavity and subcutaneous filariasis. Albendazole, Ivermectin, Diethylcarbamazine, and Doxycycline are found effective against filariasis.
