Freckles are clusters of pigment cells formed under the skin. It is also known as ephelides. The formation of freckles occurs due to exposure of skin to sunlight. It activates melanocytes causing melanin production, resulting in darker freckles on the skin. Freckles are harmless and can disappear by aging.
