Ganciclovir belongs to the group of antiviral drugs and is used as a prophylactic measure for cytomegalovirus in bone marrow or organ transplanted patients. It is given intravenously for over one hour. Diarrhea, dizziness, stomach upset, tremors, pain, and irritation at the site of injections are the most common side effects of taking this drug. Other uncommon side effects include seizures, hallucinations, confusion, etc.
