Medical Conditions - Growth Retardation

Growth retardation or intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), or fetal growth restriction, is the restricted growth of the fetus while in the mother's womb. The fetus's growth is comparatively less than expected. IUGR is caused due to nutritional deficiency, smoking, alcoholism, viral infection, certain medications, hypertension, etc., in pregnant women. Early induced labor is mostly carried out in such conditions. Eating nutritious food, enough sleep, and avoiding tobacco and alcoholism may help.
