Hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid scan (HIDA) or cholescintigraphy diagnoses liver, gall bladder, and bile duct problems. Before the scan, a radioactive tracer will be injected intravenously, which the liver, gall bladder, and ducts take up and show in the gamma camera. These can diagnose bile duct blockages, biliary atresia, postoperative findings, gall bladder inflammation, and assess a liver transplant.
