Intertrochanteric fracture is a type of femur (thigh bone) head fracture. It is very common in the elderly population and the major cause is ground-level falls. One may need special x-rays or scans to visualize the fracture. It generally needs surgical treatment and stabilization of the joint with hip screws and nails used for this purpose.
