Jaw movement is of six types that are opening, closing, right and left jaw translation protrusion, and retrusion. All these jaw movements help in chewing, swallowing, cutting, grinding food, and speech. During jaw movements, only the lower jaw(mandible) moves, and the upper jaw (maxilla)stays stable.
