Lacunar infarcts are also known as small vessel disease. These usually are smaller than 20 mm in size. Occlusion of the end perforating arteries of the base or the subcortical areas of the brain. They present as ischemic stroke in long-standing hypertensive people in their old age. Dementia and change in gait are some common signs. Treatment intervention is the same as ischemic stroke.
