Laryngitis is an aggravation of the voice box. It occurs due to overuse, infection, or contamination. The vocal cords are two folds of mucous membranes that cover muscle and cartilage in the larynx. Vocal cords normally vibrate and move in a smooth way as they open and close, creating sounds.
