The lung function test is otherwise known as the pulmonary function test (PFT). It includes various tests that help to check the proper functioning of the lungs. The most common test is spirometry. It measures the capability of the lungs to hold air. It is used for screening diseases that affect lung volumes. The other tests are lung volume testing, diffusing capacity test, and exercise testing. Lung volume testing measures the volume of air present in the lungs. The diffusion capacity test measures the volume of oxygen entering the bloodstream. Exercise testing helps in evaluating the cause of shortness of breath.
