Malassezia furfur fungus is ordinarily present in the dermis of the human skin as a commensal. As they are lipophilic, they gain exogenous lipids from the skin of the chest, scalp, and back, rich in fatty acids. They cause tinea versicolor, dandruff, and seborrheic dermatitis. It causes fungemia and pneumonia in catheterized patients. Topical and systemic antifungals are effective in treating the infection and lesion.
