Meibomian gland dysfunction describes a group of disorders associated with abnormalities in the function of meibomian glands. This can result in ocular surface diseases, discomfort in the ocular structures, alterations in the tear film composition, and dry eyes. It is caused due to the lack of oil (meibum) production, or the produced oil is of poor quality.
