The cervix, the lowest portion of the uterus that attaches to the vagina, is the site of a benign development called a nabothian cyst. These cysts can be small or huge, and they are packed with mucus. Nabothian cysts typically have no symptoms and do not need to be treated. They often show up as tiny, round, smooth lumps on the surface of the cervix and are found during normal gynecological exams. Rarely, nabothian cysts may enlarge to the point that they obstruct sexual activity or cause discomfort. They may be surgically removed in such circumstances.
Nabothian Cyst vs Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor caused by aberrant cell proliferation, whereas nabothian cysts are benign growths in the cervix caused by blocked glands.
