Nitisinone is a hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor. It is used as an adjunct to dietary limitations to treat hereditary tyrosinemia type 1 (HT-1), which induces intolerance to tyrosine composing foods. Nitisinone is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme that catalyzes the generation of homogentisic acid.
