Opportunistic pathogens are microorganisms that do not usually infect healthy hosts but produce infection in hospitals to immunosuppressed persons or those patients presenting underlying diseases such as cystic fibrosis, which favors infection. The opportunistic bacteria do not cause any trouble when a person is healthy and may cause adverse effects in the intestines when the body is weak. Examples of opportunistic bacteria are Bacteroides, E.coli. and Streptococcus.
