Inflammation of the optic nerve, which is a bundle of nerve fibers that carry information from the eyes to the brain, is called optic neuritis. The symptoms include eye pain, unilateral vision loss, loss of color vision, and seeing flashing lights. It is believed to be an autoimmune disease.
