Penicillin belongs to the group of drugs called antibiotics that is used to treat bacterial infection. These drugs were the first antibiotic that doctors used. Penicillin works by interfering with bacterial cell walls. Penicillins are not recommended in people with bleeding disorders, kidney disease, gastrointestinal problems, and breastfeeding women.
