Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium of the heart. The pericardium is a sac-like structure that surrounds the heart and holds the heart in its place. Viral infections, heart attacks, etc., are the cause of pericarditis. Stabbing pain in the chest and shoulder, fatigue, fever, etc., are the symptoms.
