Periductal mastitis is a benign, painful breast infection that occurs when the ducts under the nipple are infected and inflamed. It is caused due to the entry of bacteria in the breast or a blockage in the milk duct, mainly during breastfeeding. Symptoms include swelling, pain, warmth, fever, and chills. Treatment involves antibiotics and mild pain relievers.
