Periodontal pockets are formed due to poor oral hygiene. Accumulation of plaque around the teeth results in calculus. It is cleaned by scaling, and in untreated cases, it results in gum recession. The receded gums lead to the deepening of gum pockets. Finally, periodontal pockets are formed by the loss of bone tissues around the teeth.
