Pleurodesis is a procedure done to prevent recurrent pleural effusion or pneumothorax or to treat a persistent pneumothorax. A mild irritant drug is put into the space between the lungs and the chest wall to stick the lung to the wall of the chest to prevent further collection of fluid or air in the space.
