PCP is an infection caused by the fungus pneumocystis jirovecii that spreads through the air. It results in inflammation and fluid build-up in the lungs. It is observed that people with a weakened immune system, such as those with HIV or on immunosuppressants, are prone to this infection. PCP can also spread to the liver, bone marrow, and lymph nodes.
