Pneumonitis is a term used to define all types of inflammation related to the lungs. The cause of inflammation can be an infection, allergy, irritation, or more. Generally, doctors use the term pneumonitis in reference to lung irritations and allergies. It can be an irritant substance the individual has inhaled, a reaction to certain drugs, or something as severe as cancer inside the lung. Symptoms can be cough and breathlessness.
