An inflammatory disease that occurs chiefly in the shoulders and hips and results in muscle pain and stiffness is polymyalgia rheumatica. It usually occurs in people above the age of 65, and these symptoms are sudden in onset and are more severe in the morning. Manifestations of the disorder include pain and stiffness in the upper arm, shoulders, buttocks, hips, and thighs, along with restricted movements.
