Medical Conditions - Psyllium

Psyllium derived from the plant Plantago ovata is primarily effective in treating constipation. It is also used to treat mild diarrhea. It is a soluble dietary fiber and has its effect in lowering blood sugar and cholesterol levels, aids in weight reduction, and is good for the heart. It absorbs water and becomes viscous that aids in excretion. Hence more water intake is necessary. This laxative has an added prebiotic effect.
