Medical Conditions - Pulmonary Edema

Pulmonary edema is the accumulation of fluid in the lung tissue and air spaces. This leads to impaired air exchange leading to respiratory failure. Cardiogenic pulmonary edema is caused as the left ventricles do not pump the blood out of the lungs. Noncardiogenic causes are acute respiratory distress syndrome, blood clots, lung injury, etc. Treatment depends on the cause of edema.
