Purpura, otherwise called skin hemorrhages or blood spots, are purple spots on the skin surface and sometimes can also occur in mucous membranes and internal organs. Blood clotting disorders, congenital connective tissue disorders, anticoagulants, weak blood vessels, vitamin C deficiency, HIV infection, lupus, and recent blood transfusion can all result in purpura.
