Recombinant erythropoietin or erythropoietin stimulating agents is synthetic erythropoietin produced by gene cloning. It is given in patients where transfusion is impossible or when the patient is not willing for transfusion. It is provided by an injection that induces the synthesis and release of red blood cells from the bone marrow. Patients under cancer chemotherapy and chronic lung disease patients require it. Increased blood pressure, fever, nausea, pain, and swelling at the injection site are the adverse effects of the drug.
