The most common causes of rectal pain are hemorrhoids and anal fissures. Rectal pain can also be due to anal masturbation or sex without lubrication, rectal ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, rectal muscle spasm, proctitis, anal abscess and fistula, constipation, fecal impaction, and sexually transmitted infections. Based on the cause, they can be associated with discharge, swelling, and lumps. Sitz bath, pain killers, and Hydrocortisone cream can relieve the pain.
