The rigid spine is a rare congenital disease and progresses slowly from childhood. It is due to a mutation in a gene called SELENON. It is characterized by poor neck control in infants, neck flexure limitations, weakness, atrophy of the muscles, spine stiffness, and breathing problems. There is no cure, but supportive treatment such as physiotherapy, using braces can be done.
