Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a contagious respiratory illness. The symptoms of SARS start with flu-like signs such as fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, and occasionally diarrhea. SARS is a serious illness that can be life-threatening, like any other respiratory illness, spreads through the droplets that enter the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
