Medical Conditions - Short Bowel Syndrome

Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) is a condition characterized by the malabsorption of nutrients due to the surgical removal or working loss of a significant portion of the small intestine. It can occur as a result of congenital defects, inflammatory bowel disease, radiation enteritis, or surgical resection. Common symptoms include diarrhea, weight loss, malnutrition, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalances. Treatment involves a combination of medical and nutritional interventions, including specialized diets, enteral and parenteral nutrition, and medications to manage symptoms and complications.
