Sickle cell anemia is a disorder of the red blood cells of the body. In this condition, red blood cells are sickle or crescent-shaped. Red blood cells become rigid and stick to the surface of the blood vessels. As a result, the normal life span of the red blood cells becomes less. This is a genetic condition that causes severe deficiency of red blood cells, severe pain, and swelling of the body parts.
