Single umbilical artery is a condition in which one artery in the umbilical cord is missing. It occurs in only 1% of pregnancies. There is a healthy pregnancy and delivery in many cases with a single umbilical artery. However, in some cases, babies with a single umbilical artery can have complications such as heart and spinal defects.
