Sodium oxybate is used in the treatment of narcolepsy (daytime sleepiness) and reduces the sudden short attacks of paralyzed muscles. Side effects include dizziness, bedwetting, headache, numbness, vomiting, back pain, sweating, swelling in the legs or arms, stomach pain, tingling sensation, etc. It is sometimes illegally sold and abused.
